Nowadays, we all are very comfortable in using social media platforms and websites, and you must know and use some app or the other. It can be Facebook, Twitter, or something else. I know that there are times when we all feel a bit uncomfortable to share our lives online, and it may be due to several reasons. We either use their websites on our desktops or apps on our smartphones.
What do all these platforms have in common? They are accessible via your preferred web browsers, and thus, are essentially websites. Don’t agree with me?
Website: A set of related web pages located under a single domain name, typically produced by a single person or organization.
Nevertheless, we all use WhatsApp, well, unless you are living under a rock! 🤣
Now, if you are running a business, or are an author (or want to be one), or you want to have some online real estate to work with, it is a very good idea to have your own website. What is the benefit of taking all the trouble to get a hosting, domain, and learn all such stuff, when a lot of websites offer free publishing?
I too had the same question, before I set up my own website. For a comparison, let’s assume that you need a home for your family, and are looking at various options. Some of the questions you might have:
- Should I buy a ready-made flat (or bungalow)?
- Is it better to plan out and build our own home, after buying a piece of land?
- What if we need to change places if our landlord asks us to evacuate our rented apartment?
And so on. Similarly, a website is essentially an online real estate, and if you do not have your own servers, there are many companies renting a server based on a monthly or annual plan. Based on the ratings of testers and tech enthusiasts (like me) 😉, you can figure out which is best for you.
So, if you are looking to building your own brand, and are into digital marketing or want to have some granular control over your own website, and customise it to your liking, I would suggest that you start with your own website.
Yes, it is not free, but the freedom and control you have would be way better than investing your valuable time on someone else’s website. It is true that with increased power comes more responsibility, and you need to put some effort to get people’s attention. But in the end, if you remain positive and steadfast, you can reap the benefits in the long term.
Not only can you plan and execute digital marketing campaigns and promote your brand and its products, but also consider running ads of relevant companies and businesses on your own website.
A website can add to the company’s reputation and help in getting more leads and exposure in the digital world, and as most people first search on Google for a product or service, it becomes a very powerful tool to build your audience and customer base.
